SHERWOOD'S NAMING STYLE
Here in Sherwood Forest, we like to go about naming in a logical way. Traditional Naming is a style of naming that is based off of the first arc of the Warrior Cats series, when there seemed to be an inherent system to naming kits and warriors. I'll summarize the basics for you, but if you want to get into the specifics, Ailuronymy is our primary reference. C:
Prefixes The prefix is the first part of a warrior's name. It always describes the appearance of the cat. Why? Kits are all about the same. They're wet, loud, fat lumps of adorable that won't be able to see or hear for a few weeks after they're born. In most cases, the only way you can tell a new kitten apart from its littermates - or the other kits in the nursery - is the kitten's unique appearance. And since their appearance will never vary throughout their life, it's the ideal form of identification in a big clan.
Kittens can be named after anything with visual connotations, i.e. animals, plants, colors. Though fictional, Sherwood Rise is based on the West Coast of Wales, UK, so animal and plants used for prefixes must be found in Wales as well.
List of Accepted Prefixes
This list is far from complete, so feel free to do your own research and find new plants and animals that can describe a cat! We are open to debate and suggestions here.
Other Acceptable Prefixes:
None as of yet.
Suffixes The suffix is the second part of a warrior's name. It is the part that notes the most prominent skill a cat possesses, a personality type. Cats in Sherwood don't normally achieve their warrior names before the age of 18 moons, so by that time, they should be fully developed and be ready for a name that will describe them for life.
Suffixes, unfortunately, have more restrictions placed on them than prefixes. This is because it is not the cat who chooses their name; it's the leader. And part of the leader's job is to keep the culture intact, and only use a limited, ageless set of suffixes to categorize their warriors.
